How to make sure your Corporate Event has lasting Impact

How to make sure your Corporate Event has lasting Impact.

No matter what the theme of your Corporate Event is, its ultimate goal is to align people and inspire them to take action. And this inspired action needs to be not just short-term action, but rather long-term action. Your Corporate Event needs to inspire sustained action. And of the different ways to inspire action, it is only Personal Growth that inspires long-term action.

The purpose of this article is to highlight how your Corporate Event can have lasting impact by simply focusing on the Personal Growth of your teams.

The ABC of the Best Corporate Events

I have recently written an article on the pattern that I believe all the best Keynote Speeches’ have in common: The best Keynote Speech is Action oriented, inspires Belief, & is crystal Clear. See our article: The ABC of the Best Keynote Speech.

This model can also be translated directly, and be applied, to Corporate Events: The best Corporate Events are also Action oriented because their ultimate goal is to inspire sustained action, they do this by inspiring Belief because when people believe in something that are driven to act, & they are also crystal Clear because a ‘confused mind does not act’.

The best Corporate Events are Action oriented, they inspire Belief, & they are crystal Clear so people know what to do.

Three ways to Inspire People

There are three ways to inspire people to action: 1) by creating Fear, 2) by giving them Incentives, or 3) encouraging Personal Growth.

1) Inspiring people to action with Fear.

Fear is a short-term emotion. And for good reason, if fear is sustained over a period of time it turns into anxiety; Corporate Culture will become toxic if driven by anxiety. Indeed, the root of the word ‘anxiety’ comes from the Latin meaning ‘to choke’.

So while fear in the short-term can get people to act, it can not be used to sustain action. It is because of this, and the fact that fear restricts the full engagement of people, that I suggest to never use it at your Corporate Event, or indeed in any Corporate setting. Fear is a superficial shock, not sustained support. For more on this see our article: Never Hire a Keynote Speaker who Motivates by Fear.

Fear is a superficial shock, not sustained support.

2) Inspiring people to action with Incentives.

Creating incentives for people can inspire them only in the medium-term. Because incentives, such as more money, have proven to have a ‘cut-off’ limit. In other words, after attaining a certain amount of money (this amount varies from person to person), money no longer becomes an incentive to take action.

Indeed, it is a common trait among successful people that they are not driven by money but rather by an internal purpose or mission. So while there is room at your Event to highlight the incentives that are in place to encourage action, the inspiration needs to go deeper.

3) Inspiring people to action with Personal Growth.

It is only a sense of Personal Growth that has a long-term impact on people. Because when people feel that they are achieving Personal Growth they feel internally inspired.

It is the feeling of process that inspires people in the long-term. This is the senses of learning, achieving personal goals, and completing autonomous tasks. This is the common trait among successful people who feel they are driven by an internal purpose or mission.

Creating lasting Impact.

If you have the goal of creating sustained action from your Corporate Event, it must then focus on Personal Growth. Which can be simply defined as: Personal Growth is when we can use our talents, and develop our talents, as we act towards a common goal.

‘Working towards a common goal’ is about having a common vision and a clear direction of travel. This of course is one of the key elements in every Event: to remind people where we have come from, why we are here, and where we are going. For more see our article: The Impact of a Keynote Speech.

Personal Growth is to use our talents, and develop them, as we act towards a common goal.

‘Using our talents and developing our talents’ is about about empowering people, inviting them to participate, and creating support systems that encourage this across time.

At your Corporate Event this translates into designing a participatory event, where people are invited to contribute. Rather than ‘sit-back and listen’, it becomes a ‘sit-forward and participate’ event. For more insights on the importance of participation see our article: Why a Professional Keynote Speaker will make you Laugh.

This is good news because what helps create an experience of Personal Growth is also what creates a great Corporate Event: people are invited to use their talents, and develop their talent, as they work towards a common goal.

So the next time you are organising a Corporate Event use the principles of Personal Growth to inspire long-term acton and create a lasting impact from your event.
